Tigertrack

Tigertrack

The history of the Transformers doesn't really begin with the American cartoon and toy release. Long before Peter Cullen and Frank Welker lent their voices to Optimus Prime and Megatron, the Transformers existed as parts of a few different toy lines in Japan, including Diaclone and Microman.

There are other sites that do extensive and informative histories of these lines, so I won't get into great detail about that here. However, one thing I will note is that a lot of characters we know and love were released in a rainbow of different colors overseas. Sideswipe was one of these characters.

This is Tigertrack, a Figure King exclusive repaint. The yellow Sideswipe existed in some quantity in Japan before 1984, and since Sideswipe was being issued en masse some twenty years later, it makes a lot of sense to reintroduce these color variants as exclusives. I mean, change the dye of the plastic and you're done, yes?

I was fortunate enough to obtain an Action Master Sideswipe, and after a few tries I got the mold of him down pretty tightly. I offer Tigertrack as an option to anyone who likes the character and wants the character, but can't afford to shell out lots of money for the exclusive.

The colors below helped customize Tigertrack:
  • Space Wolves Grey (Games Workshop)
  • Chaos Black (Games Workshop)
  • Mithril Silver (Games Workshop)
  • Ice Blue (Games Workshop)
  • Skull White (Games Workshop)
